Here’s a brief visual story of all the details you perhaps missed while exploring Palace of Versailles, France. This was my second visit; it had been three years since my initial adventure and it was winter – during that time I was an extremely poor backpacker that fell deeply in love this with the Palace and her grounds. This time sadly, was not the same. I had one clear thought – this sickeningly beautiful place really comes to life, unexpectedly in winter.
Yeah, Spring was nice – the fountains were on, the gardens were flush, the sun was out… but there was people everywhere. It was a loud, rude, seething mess of humanity. The real charm of this place is best served up with the dystopian emptiness that a European winter brings. This lonely landscape from my memory is not what was captured here – but here, you’ll see all the permanent details of the Palace that I didn’t appreciate or document the first time around. So many intricate details to take in. Look up and look closer to discover all the little golden treasures you may not normally appreciate.
